Auditions for Cottage Theatre’s “Twelve Angry Men”
Adapted by Sherman Sergel
Based on the Emmy award-winning television movie by Reginald Rose
Directed by Jim Curtiss and David Work
This suspenseful stage adaptation of Reginald Rose’s 1954 made-for-TV movie provides a mesmerizing glimpse into the underpinnings of the American judicial system. A 19-year-old man has just stood trial for the fatal stabbing of his father. “He doesn’t stand a chance,” mutters the guard as the twelve jurors are taken into the jury room, where they must render a unanimous verdict. Indeed, it appears to be an open-and-shut case; the initial straw poll is 11-1 in favor of guilt. However, the lone dissenting juror begins planting seeds of doubt in the minds of his peers, and the near unanimity starts to crumble.
